ADA P. WHITAKER

Ada Pearl Whitaker departed this life on May 24, 2000, at Sentara Hampton General Hospital. She was born on June 7, 1935, in Little Washington, N.C. She resided at 1626 Old Buckroe Road for 30 years.

She was a member of Antioch Baptist Church, where she served as president of the Usher Board for a number of years.

She was preceded in death by two daughters, Lillie Covington and Elsie Whitaker. She is survived by her husband, Jessie Whitaker of Hampton; three sons, Jesse Whitaker, and his wife, Janet Whitaker, of Hampton, Ronnie Whitaker, and his wife, Sylvia Whitaker, of South Carolina, and Bobby Whitaker of Hampton; three daughters, Annie (Lulu) Hamlett, and her husband, Preston Hamlett, of Hampton, Verna Stokes, and her husband, Glenn Stoke, of Newport News, and Clara Yvonne Whitaker of Newport News; a stepdaughter, Shirley Quick of the home; 12 grandsons; 13 granddaughters; 12 great-grandsons; nine great-granddaughters; and one great-great-grandson.

Viewing will be held Monday from 12 to 6 p.m. at Cooke Bros. Funeral Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Antioch Baptist Church, Hampton. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Whitaker will be placed in the church by 11 a.m. on Tuesday.
