ALVIN ODOM JR.
Alvin Odom Jr., 51, departed this life on Sunday, Aug. 27, 2000, at the Veterans Medical Center, Hampton.
He was born on July 4, 1949, in Halifax County, N.C. He attended the public schools in Newport News and worked in New Jersey. He was a member of United Bibleway Temple Church, Newport News, and was a veteran of the U.S. Marines.
He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Addie Pullen Odom of Enfield, N.C.; father, Alvin Odom Sr. of Norfolk, Va.; six sisters, Glorysteen Hamilton of Hampton, Vertis Horne of Rosedale, N.Y., and Dorothy Langley, Brenda Odom, Evelyn Odom and Doretha Jones, all of Enfield, N.C.; one brother, Michael Odom of Raleigh, N.C.; six aunts, Iris Hambrick, Julia Taylor, Lil Odom, all of Jamaica, N.Y., Louise Odom of Richmond, Va., Mary Williams and Mable Black Sheal, both of Brooklyn, N.Y.; five uncles, William Odom of Richmond, Va., Shephard Odom of Lanham, Md., Herbert Odom of Raleigh, N.C., and Lawrence Moody and Bonnie Jack Moody, both of Newport News; two special brothers-in-law, Winston Hamilton of Hampton and Johnnie Horne of Rosedale, N.Y.; anda host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
The funeral service will be held at noon on Saturday, Sept. 2, at United Bibleway Temple Church, with Pastor Hopewell officiating. Interment will be in Oakland Cemetery. Viewing will be from 1 to 7 p.m. on Friday at Cooke Bros. Funeral Chapel and two hours prior to the service Saturday at the church.
