Alvinza B. Jeffers

Newport News – Alvinza Benedict Jeffers, 69, of 27 Bernard Drive, died Wednesday in Riverside Hospital.

He was born in Appalachia and retired from Newport News Shipbuilding in the industrial engineering department in 1982 after 42 years of service.

He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Sarah Kibler Jeffers; a daughter, Mrs. Susie Garrett of Newport News; four sons, Michael F. Jeffers and Jack K. Jeffers, both of Newport News, J. Scott Jeffers of Smithfield and Guy Thomas Jeffers of Gloucester Point; and eight grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 pm Saturday at Umphlett Funeral Home by the Rev. James Luck of Trinity United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Peninsula Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 pm Friday at the funeral home.

The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Trinity United Methodist Church Building Fund.
