NEWPORT NEWS – Beatrice R. Crockett Wise, 98, died Monday, April 14, 1997. Born Oct. 17, 1898, in Accomac, she moved to Newport News, where she resided for over 75 years. She had been a faithful and active member of Chestnut Memorial United Methodist Church since 1926.
Mrs. Wise was preceded in death by her husband, Walter R. Wise Sr. She is survived by two sons, Dr. Walter R. Wise Jr., and his wife, Miriam Adams Wise, and John S. Wise, and his wife, Dorothy Hebble Wise; three daughters, Nannie W. Milliner, and her husband, Ret. Col. Walter T. Milliner, Anne W. Nicholas, and her husband, Pastor John L. Nicholas, and Nellie W. Gray, and her husband, J. Harold Gray; her sister, Mrs. C. Lester Drummond of Parksley; 21 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones Wednesday from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Hidenwood Retirement Community Center, which had been Mrs. Wise’s home for the past eight years.
A funeral service will be held 3:30 p.m. Thursday, April 17, at Chestnut Memorial United Methodist Church by Pastor Rudolph E. Tucker. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
Memorials may be made in her memory to her church or a favorite charity.
