CARL I. WASHINGTON
Carl Irvin Washington, 73, slipped into a blissful sleep on Sunday, June 27, 1999, in his home.
He was a native of New York and had been a Williamsburg resident for the past 25 years. He was a member of New Quarter Baptist Church. In January 1999, he retired from the Patrick Henry Inn after many years of service. He also was U.S. Army veteran of World War II and had received the World War II Victory Medal.
He leaves to forever treasure his precious memories his devoted wife, Helen Deloris Washington; his daughters, Sylvia Wimberley and Darthula Washington, both of New York; his sons, Vincent Ashby of Williamsburg and Carlos Washington of New York; his grandchildren, Tamara Wimberley, Jessica Ferguson, Jewel Ferguson, Antwanne Carroll, Tasha White and Tiffany White; his sisters-in-law, Betty Braxton and Cynthia Wallace; his brother-in-law, Don E. Piggott; and many other loving relatives and caring friends.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday in Whiting’s Chapel with the Rev. William Byrd officiating. Interment will follow in New Quarter Baptist Church Cemetery. Family and friends will assemble at 118 Colby Road by noon on Thursday. Viewing will be in the funeral home from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
