NEWPORT NEWS – Carmon Williams Sr., 70, died Friday, Jan. 6, in Newport News General Hospital.

He was born in Northampton County, N.C.

He was a member of Chapel Hill Baptist Church, Rich Square, N.C. He was a farmer until 1964. He later became a construction worker for the City of Newport News and Lowe’s Construction Company until his retirement due to disability.

Survivors include his wife, Iris Williams; four daughters, Mary Brown, Felicia Ellis and Louise Webb, all of Newport News, and Marva Mitchell of Ahoskie, N.C.; five sons, Gene Williams of Newport News, Michael Williams of Hampton, Carmon Williams Jr., Thomas Williams and Alphonzo Williams, all of Baltimore; one sister, Marie Boone of Rich Square; 20 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Chapel Hill Baptist Church, Rich Square, by the Rev. James Wiggins. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

A wake will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday at Cooke Bros. Funeral Chapel. The family is at 3607 Marshall Ave., Newport News.
