Charles Alexander Cooke Sr., “Horse Collar,” 84, departed this life on Tuesday, July 16, 2002, at James River Convalescent Center.

A native of Newport News, Virginia, he was a Veteran of the U.S. Army. He retired from Lorton Corrections Center.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Alma Cooke. He leaves to treasure his memories his son, Charles A. Cooke Jr. (Mary) of Bell Haven, Va.; a daughter, Janice Ward of Washington, D.C.; a brother, Joseph Cooke of Newport News; 2 grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held 12 Noon Friday, July 19, 2002, at Cooke Bros. Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. Viewing today 12 to 7 p.m. at Cooke Bros. Funeral Chapel.
