CHARLOTTE ELIZABETH WORMLEY
Mrs. Charlotte Elizabeth Wormley peacefully departed this earthly home to be with her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ on Tuesday, May 14, 2002.
Our Mom, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Mother-in-law, Auntie, Cousin and Friend was affectionately known by many names but the most precious of them was “MAMA.”
Mom was a friend to all whomever came within her presence. She delighted herself in the Lord and being around family and her many friends. Everyone loved Mom as their own.
At an early age Mom accepted the Lord as her Saviour where she joined the other saints at New Bethel Baptist Church and remained active until March 2002 when her health prevented her from attending. Her presence wasn’t sitting in her usual seat but her spirit was always there because our mom loved the Lord and enjoyed attending her church. Mom’s 81 years on this great earth was because of her being birthed by her parents, the late George William and Katie Marshall Russell. Mom met and married our father, the late James W. Wormley to whom three lovely daughters were born.
She was predeceased by her husband James W. Wormley, daughter, Madeline Ashlock, grandson, Robert H. Yancey Jr., and all of her siblings.
Her precious memories will be remembered by her two daughters, Catherine E. Gray (Charles) of Owing, Md., and Ernestine D. Yancey (Robert) of the home; grandson, Darryl F. Yancey (Monica) of Newport News, Va.; one foster son, Ulysses S. Robinson (Annette) of Yorktown, Va.; two great-grandsons, Brandon and Chase Yancey; other dedicated children include Elizabeth H. Morrow Williams (William) of Williamsburg, Va.; and their son, Arland “AJ” Morrow Jr.; many nieces, Eleanor Robinson, Margaret and Martha Lewis, Dorothy Flood, Mildred Parsons, Willie M. Smith, Virginia Shields, Beatrice Truhart, Virgie Moore, Beatrice Russell; many cousins, other relatives and friends.
Mom was affiliated with many ministries in the church and organizations outside the church which include Sr. Usher Board, Church Women United, Sr. Missionary Society and Thursday Noon Bible Study; St. Mary’s Chapter No. 4 Order of Eastern Star, Esther Court No. 2, Fidelity Court No. 1, Deborah Council, Ladies of Knight Templars No. 1, Venus Court No. 1 A.A.D.O.S.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at New Bethel Baptist Church by Rev. Larry Jones and Rev. James Lawson. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Wormley will be placed in the church by 11 a.m. Saturday. The family and friends attending the funeral will assemble at 3807 Big Bethel Road, Yorktown, Va., by noon on Saturday.
