Clyde Whitecotton, 84, died Wednesday, March 20, 2002.

He was a native of Dry Fork, W.Va., and had been a Peninsula resident since 1938. He was employed as a crane operator at Naval Weapons Station, retiring after 25 years service. After his retirement he worked for Coats and Clark. Mr. Whitecotton was a member of Warwick River Mennonite Church.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Hallie G. Whitecotton; two daughters and sons-in-law, Faye and Steve Lowe of Tyler, Texas, and Becky and Cecil Burkett of Newport News, and a special daughter-in-law, Patricia Whitecotton of Oakboro, N.C.; three sisters, Mary B. Smith of Elkins, W.Va., Annie Smith of Newport News and Opal Troy of Berlin Center, Ohio; six grandchildren, the Rev. Jeffrey Whitecotton, Karen FitzGerald, Steven Lowe, Randy Whitecotton, Kevin Burkett and Scott Lowe; and two special great-grandchildren, Christian Lowe and Allison FitzGerald. Mr. Whitecotton was preceded in death by his son, the Rev. C. Wayne Whitecotton.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 22, at Warwick River Mennonite Church. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the church with the Rev. Jeffrey Whitecotton and the Rev. Steve Gibbs. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
