NEWPORT NEWS – Clyde W. Whitted Jr., 61, a native of Hillsborough, N.C., and a Peninsula resident for many years, died Tuesday, Aug. 15, 1995, in Mary Immaculate Hospital.

He was a member of Colossian Baptist Church, where he served his church faithfully as a trustee and member of the Missionary Circle and the Men’s Chorus. On Jan. 3, 1994, he retired from the Yorktown Naval Weapons Station after 38 years of untiring service as a micrographic equipment specialist. He was a member of Maceo Consolidated Lodge No. 124, Zem Temple No. 122, the John W. Kirby Consistory No. 40 and the A.E.A.O.N.M.S. of North and South America. He was past excellent high priest of Malachi Chapter No. 61. He was also a United States Army veteran.

Mr. Whitted is survived by his former wife, Harriet B. Whitted of Newport News; his daughters, Katrina Tucker and Teresa R. Whitted, both of Newport News; his foster son, Stanley Zeigler of Atlanta, Ga.; his father, Clyde W. Whitted Sr. of Hillsborough, N.C.; his sister, Delores Tinnin of Efland, N.C.; his brothers, George E. Whitted of Efland, N.C., and Dempsey L. Whitted of Hillsborough, N.C.; his grandchildren, Alicia R. Whitted, Rahsaan G. Tucker and Rashida S. Tucker; and a host of other loving relatives and caring friends.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday in Colossian Baptist Church with the Rev. Steven W. Banks officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with military honors and Masonic rites at the gravesite. Family and friends will assemble at 414 Aspen Drive by noon on Saturday. The body may be viewed in the church starting at 11 a.m. on Saturday and in Whiting’s Funeral Home on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m., at which time the family will receive friends and Masonic rites will be given.
