D. W. Nettles dies, conduct rites today
Funeral services for D. W. Nettles, 78, of Sawyer Swamp Road, who died at Dixie Hospital at 9:37 Saturday night after a long illness, will be held at 4 this afternoon at the Richardson and Wood Funeral Home.
The Rev. John H. Garber, pastor of Hampton Baptist Church, will conduct the rites, and burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be R. L. Garrett, Lee J. Todd, Jesse Etheridge Jr., Jesse Hogg, Lee Ammons and Charles C. Curtis. Other friends of the family will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Mr. Nettles was born in Elizabeth City county April 2, 1864, and had made his home in the Lower Peninsula area practically all his life. He had been a member of the Hampton Baptist Church a number of years.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Robert Barclay of Hilton Village and Mrs. Harry T. Stultz of Sawyers Swamp Road; one son, P. M. Nettles of Sawyers Swamp Road; five sisters, Mrs. Martha Teggerson of Portsmouth, Mrs. R. A. Landrum of Elizabeth City County, Mrs. Sallie Begor of Hampton, Mrs. Minnie Robbins of Hartford, Conn., and Mrs. Lydia Vanderslice of Newport News; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
