YORKTOWN – Dick Johnston Cole, 85, past Commander of the Hampton Roads Power Squadron, died Sunday, Dec. 26.

Mr. Cole was a civil service employee with NASA, retiring in 1971 after 26 years of service.

Mr. Cole was a very well-known member of the Azalea and Rhododendron Society, having one of the largest collections of azaleas in the country in his own backyard.

A native of Hancock County, Ohio, and a Peninsula resident since 1945, Mr. Cole was a member of Grace Episcopal Church.

Survived by his wife, Eleanor Cole; and a sister, Ruth Hughes of Westerville, Ohio.

Funeral 11 a.m. Wednesday at Amory Funeral Home, Grafton, by the Rev. Carleton Bakkum. Interment in Parklawn Memorial Park, Hampton. Visitation from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
