POQUOSON – Dorothy H. Wood, 86, died Saturday, Nov. 11, in Mary Immaculate Hospital, Newport News.

A native of Washington Court House, Ohio, Mrs. Wood had been a Peninsula resident for most of her life. She was employed as a secretary with the American Red Cross in Hampton and as a secretary with Central United Methodist Church in Hampton. Mrs. Wood was a member of Hampton Baptist Church and served as a “Gray Lady” with the Veterans Administration Medical Center during the 1940s and 1950s.

Survivors include two sons, F. Holman Wood of Poquoson and Hamilton Wood of Newport News; one sister, Virginia Hollis of Lakeland, Fla.; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Emmaus Baptist Church Cemetery by the Rev. Jay Russ.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Lawrence B. Wood Funeral Home, Hampton.

The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Peninsula Unit, American Cancer Society, 9624 Warwick Blvd. 23601.
