JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Edmond Lee ”Tommy” Clayton Jr., 52, formerly a Peninsula resident, died Saturday, Feb. 9.

He was employed by Waterman Steamship Co., New Orleans, La. A merchant seaman, he was working as third assistant engineer. Mr. Clayton served with the Marine Corps from 1957 to 1959.

He was a native of Belle Haven, N.C., and a Peninsula resident for many years. Mr. Clayton had been a member of Seafarers International Union since 1968.

Survivors include his mother, Annie B. Jones of Hampton; two sisters, Phyllis Ferebee of Newport News and Joann Lampart of Gloucester; and two brothers, Gene R. Clayton of Newport News and Morris A. Jones with the Air Force in Germany.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the home of his mother.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home by the Rev. Earl Dalton. Burial will be in Parklawn Memorial Park.
