ELIZABETH B. OAKLEY

Elizabeth “Bott” Oakley, 80, died Tuesday, March 30, 1999. A lifelong resident of Hampton, she graduated from Hampton High School, where she starred in basketball, track and softball. She retired from the Newport News office of the Social Security Administration in 1973 after 32 years civil service.

Miss Oakley was a member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church. She was also a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, and she had played in the women’s fastpitch softball league at Phoebus.

Preceded in death by her sister, Mary Hatt Hayes, and her friend, Ianthe Davenport, she is survived by a sister, Virginia O. Farabee of Hampton; two nephews, Michael Hatt and Allen Farabee; and two nieces, Libby Martin and Carole Heil.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home, Hampton. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Emmanuel Episcopal Church by the Rev. Richard L. Vinson. Interment will follow in Oakland Cemetery.
