ELIZABETH A. OLSON

Elizabeth Chase Aery Olson, 87, died Sunday, Dec. 12, 1999.

A native of Hampton, she was the daughter of the late William Anthony and Clara Thompson Chase Aery. Mrs. Olson was educated at the National Cathedral School and Wellesley College and had done post- graduate study at Mount Holyoke College.

She was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church in Virginia Beach and had been a member of Saint John’s and St. Mark’s Episcopal Churches in Hampton; had served on the Board of Directors and Blood Committee of the Hampton Roads American Red Cross; was a founding member of the Hampton General Hospital Auxiliary; and had served as chairman of its Blood Program Committee. She was a member of the Hampton Historical Society and a charter member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, Chapter AJ, and was a founding member of chapters B and F. She was also past president of the Hampton Junior Woman’s Club and a founding member of the Arts Club. Her charitable works include volunteering with the Sentara Hampton General Hospital, Virginia Beach General Hospital, Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters and West Minister-Canterbury in Virginia Beach.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roland Ebeltoft Olson, and son, Lauritz William Olson.

She is survived by a daughter, Mary Elizabeth Rikeman of Aurora, Colo.; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at West Minister-Canterbury by the Rev. Dr. Stan Sawyer and the Rev. Allen Johnson. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 17, in Saint John’s Cemetery by the Rev. Dr. Stan Sawyer and the Rev. Richard Vinson.

The family requests that memorials take the form of contributions to All Saints Episcopal Church in Virginia Beach; West Minister-Canterbury Fellowship Fund; or the American Red Cross.
