ELLIS D. WALTON
NEWPORT NEWS – Ellis Drew Walton, 61, entered eternal rest on Tuesday, Jan. 9, 1996, at Mary Immaculate Hospital. He was a native of Victoria, Va., and a lifelong resident of Grafton in York County, Va.
He was a member of Zion Prospect Baptist Church, Tabb, Va., and a member of the Male Chorus and the Light of the Valley Masonic Lodge No. 9. He retired from Fort Eustis in April 1988 after 34 years of civil service.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Mrs. Dorothy M. Walton; four daughters, Michele A. Shealey, and her husband, Orange L. of Palm Springs, Calif., Doris W. Banks, and her husband, Avila B. of Jacksonville, Fla., Loretta M. Johnson, and her husband, Herman G. Sr., and Karen W. London, and her husband, Thurman L. Jr., both of Hampton; two sons, David A. Walton and his wife, Allyson W. of Hampton and Gary O. Walton and his wife, Stacy R. of Newport News; two sisters, Ms. Mary Rose Carter of Newport News and Mrs. Lucy V. Wright of Yorktown; two brothers, John H. Walton of Plainfield, N.J., and Robert H. Walton of Hampton. He had three grandsons, three granddaughters and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and caring friends.
He was predeceased by his parents, Ester J. Sr. and Pattie Walton and three brothers, Ralph N., Joe R. and Ester J. Walton.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 13, at Morning Star Baptist Church, 2717 N. Armistead Ave., Hampton, with the Rev. Walter C. Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in the Zion Prospect Baptist Church cemetery in Tabb.
Family and friends will assemble at 79 Motoka Drive by 11:45 a.m. on
Visitation will be Friday, Jan. 12, from 6 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home, accompanied by Masonic Rites.
Services are entrusted to the staff of Whiting’s Funeral Home, Williamsburg.
