HAMPTON – Elmer Charnick Sr., 83, died Sunday, April 14, in Riverside Regional Medical Center, Newport News.

Mr. Charnick retired from the painting department of Newport News Shipbuilding in 1969 after 20 years’ service.

A native of Phoebus and lifelong Hampton resident, he was a member of Central Baptist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Elaine D. Henson of Hampton; two sons, Elmer Charnick Jr. of Gloucester and Ruppert L. Charnick of Newport News; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home by the Rev. G. Thornton Hall. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.
