ELVOY W. CHRISTIAN
NEWPORT NEWS – Mrs. Elvoy W. Christian, 85, died Friday, July 14, 1995, in Mary Immaculate Hospital. She was a native of James City County and had been a Newport News resident for many years.
She was a member of Little Zion Baptist Church, Williamsburg, and she attended Colossian Baptist Church in Newport News.
Mrs. Christian is survived by her daughters, Elvoy Pratt, Ann Christian and Edith Cheseman, all of Newport News, Elinor Rowe and Barbara Banks, both of Hampton, and Nannie Toliver of Cherry Hill, N.J.; her sons, Theodore Christian of Hampton and Eugene Christian of Newport News; her sisters, Elaine Bryant and Mayona Fowler, both of Philadelphia, Pa.; 40 grandchildren, 72 great-grandchildren, 20 great-great-grandchildren and a host of other loving relatives and caring friends.
A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. on Wednesday in Little Zion Baptist Church, Williamsburg, with the Rev. L.F. Williams and the Rev. Steven Banks officiating. Family and friends will assemble at 406 Winslow Drive by 12 noon on Wednesday. The body may be viewed in the church starting at 11 a.m. on Wednesday. The family will receive friends in Whiting’s Funeral Home on Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m.
