EVA W. CARPER
BOYERTOWN, Pa. – Eva W. Carper, 92, died Tuesday, Sept. 4, in Frederick Mennonite Community in Frederick, Pa.
A former Newport News resident, Mrs. Carper was a native of Evanston, Ill. She was a teacher and principal in Pennsylvania and Virginia, retiring in 1973 after more than 50 years of service. She was also a freelance writer.
Mrs. Carper was a graduate of Millersville Normal School in Pennsylvania. She was a member of Warwick River Mennonite Church, Newport News.
Survivors include three daughters, Ruth W. Eitzen and Jean C. Miller, both of Bartow, Pa. and Hilda W. Carper of Evanston, Ill.; a son, James W. Carper of Dallas, Texas; a sister, Betty Springer of Goshen, Ind.; three brothers, Franklin Weber and Henry S. Weber Jr., both of Lititz, Pa., and Levi Weber of Newport News; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Warwick River Mennonite Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The body may be viewed from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at W. J. Smith Funeral Home in Newport News.
