FANNIE MAE GREEN COPELAND

NEWPORT NEWS – The Book of Life has closed on the beautiful life of Mrs. Fannie Mae Green Copeland who was born March 13, 1905, to the late Henry and Missouri Green in Mulberry Island, Va., now known as Fort Eustis. She departed this life on Thursday, March 6, 2003, at the Riverside Convalescent Center in Newport News.

She confessed Christ at an early age and was a lifelong member of Colossian Baptist Church. She retired from Philadelphia Clothing Factory after 30 years of service.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leslie Copeland, and her children, Jacob, Melvin, Henry Copeland and Helen Johnson. She was also preceded in death by her sisters and brothers, Isabell and Georgia Henderson, Grace Turner Brown, Amie Copeland, Laura Lomax, Otis Henderson, John, Elwood, Robert and Samuel Green.

Mrs. Copeland was also blessed with five grandchildren, two of whom have preceded her in death, Anthony Copeland and Francine Fuller.

She leaves to cherish her memory grandchildren, Sanier (Sandy) Jones, Bernard Stoval and William Copeland, who was her loving and devoted caregiver; stepdaughter, Sylvia Cooper of Baltimore, Md.; brother-in-law, Arthur Lomax; great-grandchildren, Marlon, Gabrielle, Shaunda, Freddie Jr., Tony Jr., Chinna, Carlos, Seeta, Franscsia, Button, William, Destiny, Devonte, Kim and Jamal; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by four nieces, Lillian Wright, Ada Poole, Susan Moody and Elizabeth Spratley, all of Newport News; and two nephews, Purcell Lomax, Freeman Lomax of Atlanta, Ga.; and a host of relatives and friends.

Mrs. Copeland was blessed with the devotion of three very special friends, Bonise Waters, Gloria Muse and Doris James Jarvis.

The family will receive friends at Mrs. Copeland’s home, 784 Shields Road, Newport News, Va.

A funeral will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at Colossian Baptist Church. Mrs. Copeland may be viewed from noon until the time of the service Saturday at the church.
