Fannie Hartzler Oliver, 89, a lifetime area resident, died Monday, Nov. 26, 2007.

She was a member of Warwick River Mennonite Church; former member of Huntington Mennonite Church; and served as a Pastor’s wife. She will be remembered for her love of poetry, her witty comments, and her willingness to help others.

She is survived by six children, Philip Hartzler of Waynesboro, Lois Mericle of Newport News, David Hartzler of Vale, N.C., Daniel Hartzler of North Lawrence, Ohio, Jacob Hartzler of Newport News, and Stephen Hartzler of Ephrata, Pa.; five sisters, Edith Layman of Newport News, Ellen Peachy, Alisa Hilary, and Helen Mabel Baker, all of Harrisonburg, and Emily Grace Shenk of New Jersey; one brother, Henry Michael Shenk Jr. of Harrisonburg; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Andrew Hartzler; her second husband, Ernest Oliver; and one sister, Esther S. Buckwalter.

Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, at W. J. Smith & Son Funeral Home.

A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, at Warwick River Mennonite Church with the Rev. John Dey officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
