FRANCIS LAWRENCE COOK SR.
Mr. Francis Lawrence Cook Sr., 74, passed away at his home and went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 20, 2002. A native of Baltimore, Md., he lived in Newport News, Va., for the past five years. He was a member of Colossian Baptist Church of Newport News.
He was a graduate of Carver High School of Baltimore, Md. Upon graduation from high school, he proudly served in the United States Army as a sergeant in the Korean War, where he was honorably discharged. He retired from the Baltimore City Housing Authority, after 40 years of dedicated service.
He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was preceded in death by four brothers, James, Matthew, George and Bernard Cook. He leaves to cherish his memory a devoted and loving wife, Linda P. Wright-Cook; a son, Francis Lawrence Cook Jr. (Ethel “Dimples”); two daughters, Alicia Cook and Ingrid Johnson (Anthony) of Baltimore, Md.; a stepson, Elisha “Sonny” Spraggins Jr. (Tracey); four stepdaughters, Cynthia Spraggins of Atlanta, Ga., and Jacqueline Spraggins, Glenda Spraggins and Edith “Pokey” Turner of Newport News; a brother, Joseph M. Cook (Doris); and a sister-in-law, Inez Cook, all of Baltimore, Md.; three sisters, Elizabeth Lee, Bernadette Gail and Theresa Cook of Baltimore, Md.; 11 grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and devoted friends.
He will be sadly missed and continually loved by all.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, March 25, at Colossian Baptist Church, with Rev. Peter Evans officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Cook may be viewed from 5 to 7 p.m. today, March 24, at the funeral home and from noon to 2 p.m. Monday at the church. The family will assemble at 534 Rainbow Court on Monday by 1:15 p.m.
