Frederick A. Nelson Sr. (Speed King) passed from this life into eternity on Sunday, March 26, 2000, at home.

He was born to the late Russell and Helen Nelson in Philadelphia May 15, 1921. He was preceded in death by his wife, Amy Babb-Nelson, formerly of Panama, and a brother, Amherst Nelson of Hampton.

He attended Phenix High School and he served in the United States Navy from 1944-46, with an honorable discharge. Fred retired from civil service after 30 years at Veterans Administration and Fort Monroe. He was a former member of Queen Street Baptist Church. He is survived by two sons, Frederick A. Nelson Jr., and wife, Brenda, of Hampton, and Ronald M. Nelson of Fort Washington, Md. Others survivors include one grandson, Frederick Nelson III, and one great-grandson, Treshaun Nelson, both ofHampton; two granddaughters, Brita Nelson- Lawton of College Park, Ga., and Tracy Jackson of Chesterfield; two great-granddaughters, Najha Nelson of College Park, Ga., and Trinity Jackson of Chesterfield; and a host of relatives and friends.

A homegoing service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 1, at Smith Brothers Funeral Home, by the Rev. Raymond Lassiter, officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Hampton. Family and friends are to assemble at 9 a.m. Saturday at Smith Brothers Funeral Home. Viewing will be Friday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Smith Brothers Funeral Home, 545 E. Mercury Blvd., Hampton; phone 723-4117.
