GERALDINE ‘GERI’ W. WEGENER
Geraldine ‘Geri’ W. Wegener, 74, died unexpectedly Tuesday, April 22, 2008.
A native of Bellerose, N.Y., she had been a Virginia resident since 1957. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ann and Bill Warren.
She graduated from St. Agnes Academy for girls in College Point, N.Y., and Prospect Heights Hospital School of Nursing in Brooklyn, N.Y.
Geri leaves to cherish her memories her husband of 52 years, Fred C. Wegener; two daughters, both of Yorktown, Marybeth Scott and husband, Randolph, and Kathy Elliott and husband, Rich; and one son, Carl Wegener and wife, Donna, of Fairhope, Ala. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Randy and Matthew Scott, Megan, Johnny and Michael Cavanagh, Taylor Elliott and Warren Wegener. Also surviving her are six sisters, Joan Gleason, Belle Mare and husband, Wes, Gen Ryan and husband, Larry, Dettie Stack and husband, Paul, Dorothy Uhl and husband, Herb, Maryanne McCormack and husband, John; sister-in-law, Fran Karmeris; a host of nieces and nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews, and friends too numerous to list.
She was employed as a Registered Nurse for the Newport News School System before retiring. After retirement, she volunteered for Our Lady of Mount Carmel School. She was an active member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church where she belonged to the Sacred Heart of Jesus Guild and the Outreach Social Ministry.
Geri was devoted to her husband, her family and her church and showed her love and support for her children and her grandchildren, who were the light of her life.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 28, at Peninsula Funeral Home in Newport News. A funeral Mass will be celebrated by Monsignor Michael McCarron noon Tuesday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.
