Harriet “Pat” Long Chauncey went to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 19, 2001. She had been a patient for the past few years at Riverside Convalescent Center in Newport News.

A longtime resident of Newport News, having lived on Park Avenue for many years, she was born in Verona on March 22, 1903, the daughter of Jacob and Harriet Reeves Long. Mr. Long was the sheriff of Augusta County for many years.

Pat worked for the government at Fort Monroe for many years, and she was a longtime member of Trinity United Methodist Church.

Pat’s late husband, Wayne B. Chauncey, preceded her in death four years ago.

She is survived by the following nieces and nephews, Edwin H. Chauncey of Richmond, Warren F. Chauncey of Virginia Beach, Robert Chauncey of Portsmouth, Harrison K. Chauncey of Palm Beach, Fla., Dwight R. Johnston of Columbus, Ohio, Patsy Heider of Richmond, William Long, also of Richmond, and Betty Ann Baxter of Tallahassee, Fla.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in Greenlawn Memorial Park by the Rev. Glen Cannon.

Memorial donations may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 228 29th Street, Newport News, VA 23607.

Peninsula Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
