HAZEL MCALWEE WILCOX

NEWPORT NEWS – Hazel McAlwee Wilcox, 92, died Thursday, July 9, 1998, at the Newport News Baptist Retirement Community. A lifelong native of Newport News, she was Mr. Hiden’s personal dictation secretary and retired in 1972 after 49 years of service at Hiden Storage and Forwarding Co. She was one of the oldest members of Orcutt Baptist Church.

Mrs. Wilcox was preceded in death by her husband, J. Murray Wilcox.

Survivors include five nieces, Louise Mitchell of Hampton, Phyllis Shields of Yorktown, Anna Lee Carter of Newport News, Patricia Roberts of Lake Wylie, S.C., Carol Soter of Greensboro, N.C.; and two cousins, Mary S. Ernst of Hampton and Sherley S. Williams of Venton.

The family will receive friends Sunday, July 12, from 6 to 7 p.m. at Peninsula Funeral Home. A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday in Greenlawn Memorial Park by the Rev. Kenneth Trinkle.

Memorial donations may be made to the Chesapeake or the Debt/Retirement Fund of Orcutt Baptist Church.
