HUMPHREY WYNNE

NEWPORT NEWS – Humphrey “Jimmy” Booker Wynne, 83, a lifelong Peninsula resident, died Sunday, June 14.

A Dare native, he retired in 1973 as superintendent of the Mold Loft Department after 47 years at Newport News Shipbuilding.

Mr. Wynne was resident engineer at the American Bridge Shipyard and helped start the Wilmington, N.C., shipyard in 1941.

He was a former port engineer and consultant for Exxon.

Mr. Wynne was a member of the May Club, where he served as president, and the Original Club. He was also a member of First Christian Church, where he was elder and emeritus.

Visitation from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at First Christian Church. Funeral at 11 a.m. Thursday at church by the Rev. Lewis A. McPherren.

Burial in Wynne Cemetery, Dare.
