IRENE CAPSALIS

NEWPORT NEWS – Irene Capsalis, 97, died Sunday, April 27, at Bayside Convalescent Home in Poquoson.

A resident of Newport News for 75 years, Mrs. Capsalis was a member of the Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church. She was a charter member of the church’s Hellenic Woman’s Penelope Society, founded in 1929, and active in the church’s various groups.

She is survived by her son, Aggie J. Capsalis of Newport News; brother, John Rossetos of Athens, Greece; five grandchildren, including Patrick Hand of Cape Charles, Patricia Hand Cole of San Francisco and Barbara Hand Fallon of Alexandria; and 10 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, followed by burial at Peninsula Memorial Park.
