Funeral today for Jake Mater
Funeral services will be held at 3 today from the residence, 230 Twenty-seventh Street, for Jake Mater, 47, who died Monday at Riverside Hospital.
Services are to be in charge of the Rev. David F. White, pastor of the Hilton Baptist Church, with burial on Maney’s Farm, Warwick County.
Active pallbearers will be Paul Hall, Moody Hall, C. C. Curtis, Thomas Mingee, Cliff Owens and Waverly Owens.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Louis Loeb, J. J. Cherry, Dr. F. A. Sinclair, Mr. McDowell, Mayor R. W. West, B. M. Roy, Floyd Dorman, Harry Bowers, J. H. Cook, T. B. Jones, L. A. Waterman and Bickford Curtis.
Mater, who had operated a restaurant in this city for the past 12 years, died a few hours after being taken to the hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound, said to have been self-inflicted. He was born in Elizabeth City County, Dec. 19, 1886.
