J. O. Carrington

James Odell Carrington, 67, of Newport News, died Tuesday at Hanover Apartments, 12847 Jefferson Avenue.

Mr. Carrington, formerly of the 103 Hogan Drive, was in the process of changing his residence to the Jefferson Avenue address when he collapsed and died.

A native of Durham, NC, he had been a Peninsula resident since 1941. He was retired from the shopfitters department of Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Co. and a member of Parkview Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Janie Johnson Carrington; two sons, Eugene C. Carrington of Gloucester and John Wayne Carrington of Hayes; a sister, Mrs. Madeline Blake, and a half-sister, Mrs. Mary Will, both of Durham, NC; a brother, J. L. Carrington of Washington, NC, and five grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 2:30 pm Friday in Riverside funeral home by the Rev. Joel Easterling.

Burial will be in Peninsula Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at the funeral home.
