JAMES A. COTTON
HAMPTON – James Alton Cotton, 88, died Thursday, May 10, in Sentara Hampton General Hospital.
A native of Norfolk, Mr. Cotton retired from Hampton University after many years. He was a member of St. Cyprian’s Episcopal Church. He was also a member of the Hampton Men’s Choral Group and a member of the board of directors of Hart-McAllister Community Center.
Mr. Cotton was a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity and was a member and secretary of the Bachelor and Benedict Club for 25 years. He received his master’s degree from New York University and a bachelor’s degree from Hampton University.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Cotton.
A memorial service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the church by the Rev. James Hall. Burial will be in Hampton University Cemetery.
Family and friends will assemble at 114 E. Pembroke Ave., Hampton, by 12:15 p.m. Tuesday.
