JAMES W. CUMMING
HAMPTON – Mr. James Wilkins Cumming, 70, died Thursday, Sept. 29, 1994.
A native of Hampton and a graduate of Newport News Shipbuilding Apprentice School, Mr. Cumming retired as a machinist from the shipyard in May of 1984 after 42 years of service.
Mr. Cumming was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Estes Cumming; his son, James M. Cumming II of Newport News; two daughters, Joan Cumming Miller of Newport News; and Ruth Cumming DuBose of Hampton; two sisters, Anna C. Jeffries of Sun City Center, Fla., and Louise C. Smither of Richmond; as well as by his eight grandchildren.
There will be a funeral in St. John’s Episcopal Church at 1 p.m. Monday Oct. 3, 1994. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in Lawrence B. Wood Funeral Home.
