On Friday, Feb. 25, 2011, God saw fit to deliver one of his elect home.
Janette Joyner Mitchell Carter departed this life and entered eternal life at 11:31 a.m., after a short illness, at Mary Immaculate hospital in Newport News.
Janette was born, May 5, 1917, to Oscar Joyner and Mattie Powell Joyner in Ahoskie N.C., and was educated in the Hertford County Public Schools. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Ahoskie. She married Royal Mitchell and was blessed with their children, Theora, Royal, Bernard, and Colly.
In the late 1940’s, Janette married the late Deacon Arthur O. Carter of Newport News and joined Colossian Baptist Church, where she served her God, the church, and the community faithfully until called home.
Janette is survived by her devoted family, Theora (Granma T) Marx and husband, Ronald; son, Colly W. Mitchell and wife, Sally of Randallstown, Md.; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a great great-grandson
Friends my pay their respects from 7 to 8:30 p.m. tonight, Feb. 28, 2011, at Altmeyer Funeral Home Denbigh Chapel, 12893 Jefferson Avenue, Newport News, VA 23608. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 1, 2011, at Colossian Baptist Church, 856 Old Fort Eustis Blvd. Newport News, VA 23608, with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
