YORK – John E. Canady Jr., 71, a Yorktown resident for 34 years, died Thursday, Oct. 15.

He retired in 1984 from NASA-Langley Research Center. Mr. Canady was launch vehicle systems manager on Project Fire and was project manager on development of the dual air density satellite.

A Richmond native, Mr. Canady was a World War II veteran and a graduate of the University of Virginia.

Survived by his wife, Lula O. Canady; and three daughters, Sandra Rusak and Carol Bendl of Richmond and Beverly Canady of Fredericksburg.

Visitation from 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Amory Funeral Home, Grafton. Funeral at 11 a.m. Monday at Crooks Memorial United Methodist Church, Yorktown, by the Rev. Donald Long. Burial at 2 p.m. Monday in Greenwood Cemetery, Richmond.
