JOHN T. CHERRY

HAMPTON – Mr. John T. Cherry, 77, died Sunday, Feb. 26, 1995, in Riverside Regional Medical Center. He was a native of Fayetteville, N.C. and a Peninsula resident for 59 years.

Mr. Cherry retired from C&O Railroad as a conductor in 1977 after 30 years of service. He was a member of Parkview Baptist Church, Newport News. He was a member of Botetourt Lodge #7, A.F. & A.M., Gloucester. He was also a member of the Civil Air Patrol and the American Legion.

Mr. Cherry was preceded in death by his wife, Claudia Thore Cherry. Survived by two daughters, Rosalind Hodges of Hampton and Juanita Thomas of Newport News; four sisters, Elizabeth Small of Fair Bluff, N.C., Minnie Spain of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Alice Kruszynsky of Ville Platte, La., and Barbara Ketchum of Atlanta, Ga.; two brothers, Thomas C. Cherry of Norton, Va., and Jennings

Cherry of Colonial Heights, Va.; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Peninsula Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday in Peninsula Funeral Home by Rev. Lawrence J. Biermann. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park with Masonic Rites.
