J. T. Crockett, Seaford, dies
Seaford, Dec. 21 – Capt. John Tyler Crockett, 53, a lifelong resident of this community, died at his home here today after a long illness.
He was engaged in the seafood industry, having owned and operated a dredge boat many years. He was an overseas veteran of World War I.
He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Howard Smoot, Newport News, and Mrs. Belvin Ward, Messick; two sisters, Mrs. Floyd Wood , Newport News and Mrs. Jefferson G. White, Seaford; a brother, William W. Crockett, Seaford; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 3:30 Friday afternoon in Zion Methodist Church with the Rev. Merrill Barton, pastor, officiating. The Rev. Barton will be assisted by the Rev. J. Walter Martin, pastor of Temple Baptist Church, Morrison, and the Rev. Ralph J. Yow, pastor of Trinity Methodist Church, Messick. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Otis Mills, Harry De Alba, Dr. L. O. Powell, Ollie Montgomery, Winter Dawson, Horace Hansford, Benjamin Taylor, and Grady Montgomery.
