JOHN A. VAUGHAN
WILLIAMSBURG – John A. Vaughan, 80, died Monday, May 6, in Williamsburg Community Hospital.
Mr. Vaughan retired from Grummond Aerospace Corp. in 1972.
A Williamsburg resident for nine years, he was a native of Westport, N.Y. He was a 1932 graduate of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N.Y., where he earned a degree in mechanical engineering.
Mr. Vaughan attended Hickory Neck Church in Toano. He was a private airplane pilot.
Survivors include his wife, Marion Vaughan; three daughters, Valerie Sunden of Williamsburg, Sylvia Vaughan of Washington, D.C., and Susan Scheld of Charlottesville; a son, John A. Vaughan Jr. of Virginia Beach; four sisters, Wilma Vaughan, Jean Vaughan and Sandra Pooler of Westport and Rosmand Barbetta of Troy; and six grandchildren.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in Hickory Neck Church by the Rev. Theodore H. Bailey.
The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the American Cancer Society, 618-C J. Clyde Morris Blvd., Newport News 23601.
