HAMPTON – John E. “Barney” Walker Sr., 87, who retired in 1970 after 50 years as owner and operator of Barney’s Famous Crab Cakes and the Grand Terrace Restaurant, died Friday, Dec. 10.

Mr. Waker was a member of Queen Street Baptist Church where he was a trustee emeritus, Eastern Star Lodge 13 and I.B.P.O.E. 4. He was a native of Warwick County.

Survived by his wife, Lillian Walker; two daughters, Louise Walker Simpson and Thelma Walker Brown of Hampton; a foster daughter, Carolyn B. Mann of Hampton; two sons, Paul Davis Walker of New York and John E. Walker Jr. of Newport News; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Viewing noon to 7 tonight at Ronald C. Perkins Funeral Home. Elk’s Last Rites 7 tonight at the funeral home. Funeral 1 p.m. Wednesday at Queen Street Baptist Church by the Rev. Anderson W. Clary Jr. The body will be placed in the church by 11 a.m. Assemble by noon at 204 Heffelfinger St. Burial in Bassette Cemetery.
