NEWPORT NEWS – Johnnie Carney, 58, entered into eternal rest on Monday, Feb. 2, 1998, at Riverside Regional Medical Center. He was employed by Main, ACC, UCC Contractors as the master sandblaster.
He leaves to cherish his memories his former wife, Florence Carney; his sons, Dexter of Suffolk, Bernard of Newport News and Lonnie James of North Carolina; two daughters, Angelia of Newport News and Denise of Alexander; 10 grandchildren; five sisters, Inez McNair of Virginia Beach, Sadie Jones of Newport News, Shirley Holmes of Washington, D.C., Mary Walls of Hillcrest Heights and the Rev. Gloria Dailey of Weldon, N.C.; four brothers, Ben Carney Jr. of Suffolk, and Lonnie, Claude and Joe Carney, all of Newport News; four sisters-in-law, two brothers-in-law, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Johnnie was loved by many; their loss is heaven’s gain.
A funeral will be held Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at St. John’s Church of God in Christ. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. Family and friends will assemble at 1037 34th St., Newport News, by 1:30 p.m. Saturday. Viewing will be held Friday from noon to 7 p.m. at the Franklin Funeral Home Chapel.
