Joseph M. Newman, 81, passed away at home, Thursday, Sept. 30, 1999. He was a lifelong resident of Hampton. He was retired as a professional bondsman for the city of Hampton after 35 years of service. Mr. Newman was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of B’nai Israel Congregation. He was also a life member of B.P.O Elks No. 366 and a member of H-P B’nai B’rith Lodge No. 1342.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Rose Druckaroff Newman; two daughters, Emily Todd of Hampton and Barbara Fletcher, and husband, John, of Virginia Beach; two grandsons, Eric and Steven Fletcher of Virginia Beach; two granddaughters, Andrea Fletcher, also of Virginia Beach, and Jennifer Todd of Hampton; two great-grandchildren, Lauren Fletcher and Tara Schuse, both of Virginia Beach; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 4, at B’nai Israel Synagogue, 3116 Kecoughtan Road, Hampton, with Rabbi Norman Golner officiating. Burial will follow in Hebrew Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to B’nai Israel Congregation.
