JOSEPH WALLACE JR.
WILLIAMSBURG – Joseph Wallace Jr., 78, a lifelong resident of the Williamsburg area, died Wednesday, March 27, in Williamsburg Community Hospital.
Mr. Wallace worked for Hornsby Oil Co. for several years and retired from Miller Oil Co. in 1983 after many years. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.
A member of Union Baptist Church, Mr. Wallace served as an usher and as a member of the Trustee Board, Finance Board and Advisory Council. He was a member of the James City Men’s Chorus, the Combined Men’s Chorus of Williamsburg and the Brothers of Solomon. He was a member of Masonic Lightfoot Beautiful Temple No. 243.
Survivors include his wife, Katherine H. Wallace; two sons, Ernest Wallace and Oscar Howard of Williamsburg; a foster daughter, Deloris Jenkins of Toano; a foster son, P.C. Bartlett of Williamsburg; two sisters, Sarah Gray of Williamsburg and Grace Studwell of Newport News; a brother, Arthur Wallace of Newport News; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Viewing will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Whiting’s Funeral Home.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Union Baptist Church by the Rev. Benjamin Robinson. Burial will be in Jerusalem Church Cemetery.
The body will be placed in the church by 11 a.m. Saturday. The family and friends will assemble at 507 Waller Mill Road by noon.
