HAMPTON – Mrs. Katherine Graham Carmines, 82, of John Abbott Apartments on Kecoughtan Road, died Wednesday, Sept. 18, 1997. Born in Roanoke, she had been a Hampton resident for 80 years.

Mrs. Carmines worked for the Hampton school system and was a member of Central United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women and the Comrade Sunday School Class. A hymn, composed by her son, in the Methodist hymnal and the United Church of Christ hymnal bore her name.

Mrs. Carmines, the widow of Alvin A. Carmines Sr., who died in 1955, is survived by her sons, the Rev. Alvin A. Carmines Jr. of New York, N.Y., and Dr. Edward Graham Carmines, and his wife, Ethel, and their daughter, Paige Alexandra Carmines, of Bloomington, Ind.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home in Hampton by the Rev. Nolan R. Crowder. Interment will follow in St. John’s Episcopal Church Cemetery.

The family wishes that any memorials to be made are sent to Central United Methodist Church, 225 Chapel St., Hampton, Va. 23669.
