YORKTOWN – Lawnell Robert “Chick” Washington, 75, answered the Master’s call on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2003, in his home. He was a lifelong resident of the area and a member of Shiloh Baptist Church in Yorktown. He attended York County Training School. He proudly serviced his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. After being honorably discharged, he was
employed as a civil service employee at Yorktown Naval Weapons Station and at Ft. Eustis Army Transportation Center, where he retired in 1992.
He leaves to cherish his blessed memories, his sister and brothers, Beatrice Carter and Russell D. Washington Sr. (Helen), both of Grafton, and Coleman Washington (Daisy) of Newport News; his nieces and nephews; his great-nieces and great-nephews; and a host of other loving relatives and many caring friends.
A funeral service will be held noon on Friday, Jan. 10, in Shiloh Baptist Church in Yorktown with the Rev. Barbara Lemon and the Rev. Richard Holmes officiating. Interment will follow in Masonic Burial Grounds. Family and friends will assemble at 105 White Lane by 11 a.m. on Friday. Mr. Washington may be viewed from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday in the funeral home.
