Leo Walter Cabell died Aug. 12, 1999. He was 74 years old. Mr. Cabell was born March 29, 1925, to Leo Cabell Sr. and Edith Eken Cabell, and grew up in Newport News. He never married.

He served on the faculty of the University Libraries at the University of Colorado from September 1966 to September 1990, retiring as associate director of libraries. Prior to coming to Boulder, he was on the library staff at Cornell University, Ithaca, N.Y.

He graduated from Princeton University in 1949, returning to Rutgers University to earn the master’s degree in library service in 1963. During World War II, he was a paratrooper with the 17th Airborne Division, seeing action in the Battle of the Bulge, where he was wounded, and in Germany. He was an enthusiastic skier, hiker and scuba diver. After retiring, he also loved to travel.

Mr. Cabell’s remains were cremated. A service will not be held, but contributions may be made to the Friends of the Libraries, University of Colorado, Boulder.
