LESTER EBERSOLE JR.

Lester Ebersole, Jr., 79, passed away at his home on June 10, 2004, after a short illness. Born in Elizabethtown, Pa., he had been a Peninsula resident for 38 years.

Lester was a WWII veteran having served in the Army Air Corps. After his discharge he worked first in a shoe factory in Elizabethtown, on the Pennsylvania Turnpike and then in Civil Service, retiring after 40 years at Langley Air Force Base. He was a 50-year member of the American Legion. He was a longtime member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Hampton, and a former member of Christ Lutheran Church in Elizabethtown.

Mr. Ebersole was preceded in death by his mother, Anna Wagner; his brother, Robert Wagner, and son, Ronald E. Ebersole. A beloved husband, father, brother, friend and a great “Pappy,” he is survived by his wife of 53 years, Catherine Louise Ebersole; a son, Robert D. Ebersole and wife, Cheryl, of Waverly; daughter, Brenda Lee Kotrch and her husband, James, of Hampton; five grandchildren, Michelle L. Carnal, Anita J. Lewis of Hampton, Brandi D. Massie of Faber, Va., Jason W. Ebersole of Piney River, Va., and Ryan A. Kotrch of Hampton; three great-grandchildren, Shayne M. and Evan E. Lewis of Hampton, and Ronald B. Carnal of Hampton. He is also survived by two stepsisters, Nancy Becker and Ruth Gumboc; and two stepbrothers, Ralph and Harold Wagner of Elizabethtown.

“Ebby” will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

A funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 15, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Hampton, by Pastor Christine Farrow and Pastor Al Cuhen with interment to follow in Hampton Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home, Downtown Hampton.
