LEWIS E. CARPENTER SR.
HAMPTON – Lewis E. Carpenter Sr., 84, died Wednesday, Feb. 14, in Coliseum Park Nursing Home.
Mr. Carpenter, a member of First United Methodist Church in Hampton, was a lifelong Peninsula resident. He retired as a clerk with C&O Railroad in 1947. He later retired in 1964 from Economy Insulating Co. as owner/operator. He was also a member of Laf-A-Lot Rifle & Gun Club.
Survivors include his wife, Grace S. Carpenter; a daughter, Shirley Ann Pearce of Hampton; a stepdaughter, Cordelia Boothe of Gloucester; two sons, Lewis Eugene Carpenter Jr. and David Arnold Carpenter, both of Hampton; two stepsons, Charles Southall and Wayne Southall, both of Poquoson; a sister, Helen Carmines of Poquoson; a brother, Irvin Carpenter of Seaford; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday in Lawrence B. Wood Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Aubrey J. Rosser. Burial will be in Parklawn Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.
The family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Parkinson’s Disease Foundation.
