MADGE A. WHITLOCK

NEWPORT NEWS – Mrs. Madge A. Whitlock, 80, died Sunday, Dec. 28, 1997, at Riverside Regional Medical Center. A native of Johnson City, Tenn., she had been a resident of Newport News for 47 years.

Mrs. Whitlock and her husband, Zacc, owned and operated Whit Sales Co. in Newport News for over 35 years. She was an active member of Denbigh Baptist Church.

Mrs. Whitlock was preceded in death by her grandson, Mark E. Hopkins, and her sister, Alene Cole. She is survived by her husband, Zacc S. Whitlock Sr.; two daughters, Sally W. Hopkins of Newport News and Pat Whitlock-Dooz of Baltimore, Md.; her son, Zacc S. Whitlock Jr. of Newport News; her sister, Elizabeth Sams of Johnson City, Tenn.; three grandchildren, Kelli Hopkins, Michael Whitlock and Jeremy Dooz; and one great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 8 p.m. at Peninsula Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 31, in Peninsula Memorial Park by the Rev. Herbert D. Arnold. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 303 Butler Farm Road, Suite 106A, Hampton, Va. 23666-1521.

Peninsula Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
