MARION COX

NEWPORT NEWS – Marion Magruder Andrews Cox died March 31, 1994, at the age of 87.

A native of Caroline County, she graduated in 1927 from the Riverside Hospital Professional School of Nursing, and in 1933 from the University Hospital School of Anesthesia, Cleveland, Ohio.

She served for 35 years as chief nurse anesthetist at Riverside Hospital, retiring in 1970.

She was a life member of the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists.

She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Mrs. Cox was the widow of the late S. Douglas Cox, and the daughter of the late George M. and Hortense S. Andrews. She is survived by a brother, Edwin Andrews of Newport News; two cousins; and locally by a niece, Mrs. Mable Cox Baird of Newport News.

The family will receive friends at the residence on Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. that evening. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday at 3 p.m. in Peninsula Funeral Home by the Rev. Samuel Tatem.

Burial will be in Peninsula Memorial Park.

Expressions of sympathy may be in the form of contributions to a favorite charity.
