MARION G. JONES SMITH

Marion G. Jones Smith, 78, formerly of Troy, N.Y., died Tuesday, April 3, 2001, at Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News, following a brief illness.

Born in Troy, N.Y., Mrs. Smith was the daughter of Herbert and Anna (Ryan) Jones and the wife for 56 years of the late Robert M. Smith, who passed away Aug. 6, 1997. Mr. and Mrs. Smith were married in Troy, N.Y., on Oct. 18, 1940.

In 1987, Mr. & Mrs. Smith relocated to Hampton, Va., where Mrs. Smith was active in both the East Hampton United Methodist Church Needle and Thimble Circle and with St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Among her favorite pastimes were reading, crafts and needlework.

Mrs. Smith is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, G. Michael and Jacquie Smith of Grafton, N.Y., Mark S. Smith of Fairfax, Va., and Patrick and Sandra Smith of Hampton, Va.; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Dale and Dominic Mancino of Poestenkill, N.Y., Melanie Smith of Hoosick Falls, N.Y., and Pamela and Alan Tate of Troy, N.Y.; 17 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Following cremation and a Mass of Christian Resurrection, on Saturday, April 7, in Troy, N.Y., Mrs. Smith will be interned in a family plot located in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Troy, N.Y.

At the request of the family, memorial contributions may be made to the East Hampton United Methodist Church, 714 E. Pembroke Ave., Hampton, VA 23669, in memory of Marion G. Smith.
